Welcome to the Alachua Press

The Alachua Press was established in 1999. Many founding Board members spent years studying local subjects and discovered an inexhaustible supply of historical, cultural, environmental subjects and diverse communities that revealed the area’s past. The Press helps preserve Alachua County’s past which, because of many circumstances, caused it to develop into an unusually interesting place.

The Press is intent on preserving the rich history of Alachua County, which experienced rapid change and growth after the Civil War with the coming of the railroad and then after World War II with the establishment of the University of Florida. To that end, it seeks out writers to produce publications that will bring the story of the County to a wide readership.

The Press seeks potential publications from all sources. It welcomes opportunities to discuss projects with authors and organizations. The Press assesses ongoing needs to determine when a significant local topic is not covered or is covered inadequately or whose coverage is out of date. To that end, it has established itself as a not-for-profit tax exempt 501(C)(3) organization which raises money to partially underwrite its publishing projects and further its mission.

The Press welcomes your support and encourages your interest in Alachua County. Our county’s history is extraordinary rich, colorful, dramatic, and diverse.
